Every morning I take a walk down the beach. I pretend that this is for health reasons but it’s really just an excuse to put off starting the day for a little while and, well, to take a walk down the beach. Most days I start at the Calle 38 beach access where there are a lot of hotels and tourists, wander past Coco Beach where the fishing and dive boats anchor and end up at local favorite Punta Esmerelda where a freshwater cenote flows into the sea. Since I tend to walk the same stretch of beach several days a week you’d think I’d be used to it by now but the beauty of Playa del Carmen still sneaks up on me. This morning I decided to take the camera along to attempt to capture some of the things I see on an average half hour walk so I could hopefully sort of share the experience with you. Here you go –

You gotta love low season.

Rock off Coco Beach
You know you’re in a beautiful place when even the rocks look nice.
Punta Esmeralda
The bay at Punta Esmerelda.
Cenote at Punta Esmerelda
The fresh water cenote at Punta Esmerelda flowing into the ocean. One of my favorite parts of the beach!
Punta Esmerelda
The shallow waters of the cenote at Punta Esmerelda make it a family favorite.

I don't normally take picture of seagulls but this guy kept following me.

Now I that I think about it my morning walks are all about maintaining my health. My mental health.
