From sunup to sundown this place amazes me – at one point this was a full double rainbow. Being present in the moment is something we’re enjoying quite a bit so forgive me for just staring in awe and appreciation for awhile before running to grab the camera. I’m feeling lucky so I’m off to search for the pot of gold at the end of this Xcalak rainbow. Hope you find fortune of your own this weekend.

Xcalak Foot

Deidre and I both knew that selling everything and moving to Mexico would push us outside of our comfort zones, that was actually a big factor in our decision to move. However, living off the grid in Xcalak has pushed me outside of so many comfort zones I can’t even begin to count them! But for you, our loyal readers, I will try. Before I start though, let’s remember that I am not the most “handiest” of persons. Sure, I have helped out on the occasional home improvement project but usually not as the man in charge. I’m quite comfortable as the beer…

On a recent trip back to Playa del Carmen we stopped in our favorite beer bar, Club de la Cerveza, for a few minutes (purely for business reasons of course). The owner caught us on the way out and was nice enough to send Deidre and I home to Xcalak with some of our favorite Mexican craft brews. You know, sometimes you’ve just got to have the right drink, in the right place, at the right time. Well, we’ve got the beer, we’ve got access to this beautiful pier and it’s a holiday weekend in the…

Every day Xcalak takes my breath away in some manner. Sometimes it’s just because I stepped on a half buried conch shell and I’m trying not to cuss but most of the time it’s due to the awe-inspiring beauty of this wild coastline. In the past I’ve seen Haley’s Comet, a blood moon and countless meteor showers but a couple of nights ago we witnessed a Xcalak moonrise that will go down in the books as one of the most beautiful celestial events I have ever seen. Here’s hoping your weekend full of clear, bright nights and maybe even a…

This is Mexico

Have I ever told you about our good friend T.I.M.? T.I.M.introduced himself to us not too long after we crossed the border on our drive down to Mexico and has been a constant in our lives ever since. He isn’t always the greatest of friends, sometimes I get really angry and frustrated with him, but I’ve also accepted that he is going to be a constant in our life for the foreseeable future.  So I feel I should introduce you to T.I.M. or as he is also known – This Is Mexico. Every day we come across things that are…

As we mentioned, we are now living in Xcalak, an extremely remote part of the world. We have very few visitors and the ones we do get usually live within a mile or two of here. So a pleasant surprise when the other day we heard a shout of hello and went out front to find these two cyclists. They had stopped because they had seen the Kansas license plate on our car and one of them realized she is from the same county. More conversation with them and we realized our parents still live within a mile of each other back in…
